Danja Akulin (1977 - )
Danja Akulin creates aesthetically minimalist conceptual drawings. His delicately and precisely crafted large-scale drawings are meditative, seemingly dissolving and coalescing simultaneously as the viewer strives to make sense of the storm of abstract marks that compose his remarkably still images. The scale of the mark versus the scale of the image in Akulin’s work creates tension that further enforces the counterbalance between meditation and calculation, creating a mesmerizing simplicity of remarkable impact.
Danja Akulin was born in 1977 in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Russia. He studied art in the Free Art Department at the Berlin University of Arts in Professor Georg Baselitz’s art studio. In 2006 he completed the Advanced Master Program, also at the Berlin University of Arts. Akulin continues to live and work in Berlin.
