Aleksandr Kosenkov (1959 -)

Aleksandr Kosenkov has been living in Novosibirsk for many years but was born in the Far East of Russia in a place called Ekimchan in 1959.

His participation in mathematical competitions let him study at the school for physics and mathematics in Novosibirsk and later in the Institute of Technology. In 1984 his career assignment led him to Academgorodok of Novosibirsk, the educational and scientific center of Siberia, where he started to attend classes at the art studio taught by Leningrad artist Natalia Chizhik. Kosenkov attended Chizhik classes until 1998. The teaching there, in its essence, didn't differ from a classical artistic education. Natalia taught her students not only the traditional subjects of drawing, painting and composition but also about having an independent perspective and freedom of artistic creativity.

Since 1995 Aleksandr Kosenkov has been exhibiting his works in Russia and abroad. In 2008 the State Art Museum of Novosibirsk, Siberia, awarded him the diploma of the regional exhibtion 'Siberia X' and in 2010 Kosenkov won the Art Preview competition in Moscow. Aleksandr is a member of the Russian Union of Artists, «Association "Independent Culture"(Saint Petersburg).

Inspired by everyday objects, Kosenkov imbues shapes with such vibrancy that they appear to burst from the canvas. Due to the bright colour palette and expressiveness of painting, a deceptive feeling of spontaneity may come to one's mind. His images erupt with a coloratura musical sense of intense reds, blues and greens. His paintings are a visual reflection of the landscape of his mind, made up of street scenes, landscapes, interiors, figures and architecture. He is fascinated by the mixture of archaic elements and powerfully coloured shapes, while simultaneously using patterns to symbolize the nexus between the natural reality of the figure and the colourful world he creates.

Aleksandr Kosenkov says that a painting should be dynamic and draw viewers' attention, and the chosen tones may create a new quality of colour. Hestylizes and simplifies forms using splashes of colour while rejecting three-dimensional figures and dramatic subjects. As a result, the world appears as a bright patchwork of mixed-reality with a terrific bit of humor and hope. He refers to his technique as "vivifying folly"; its main idea is to change the worldview while transforming it into to an absurd environment of broken relations, proportions and conventionalities, and therefore in some way a carefree world. Kosenkov believes that feelings of joy and pleasure at the moment of creation are the foremost condition of his art.

From 2007 onwards Aleksandr Kosenkov has been a member of the professional creative union named "Partnership Free Culture", in Saint Petersburg.

Kosenkov is also a member of the association of free artists, called "Bathing the Red Horse", in Petrov-Vodkin.
